Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid started his career by joining Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute on 12 July 1998 as a scientific officer. After that he served with competence in various Stations/Sub stations of the Institute including Fresh Water Sub-station at Jessore, Shrimp Research Station at Bagerhat, Planning Branch of Headquarters and River station at Chandpur. At the beginning of his working life, he made important contributions in field research including Farming System Research, Adaptive Research. Currently he is working as Chief Scientific Officer at Freshwater station, Mymensingh. He holds Bachelors and Masters in Fisheries Science from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh and PhD on “Characterization of spawning and nursery grounds of hilsa, Tenualosa ilisha (Hamilton 1822) based on its larval and juvenile distribution and feeding habits” from University Putra Malaysia (UPM). In his professional life he served with competence and reputation for about three years at the headquarters as the Project Director of the Pearl Farming Technology Development and Expansion Project of the Institute. More than 40 (forty) research articles have been published in various national and international journals while working in the institute. In 2021, he was involved in creating the undergraduate course curriculum and syllabus of the Fisheries Science Faculty of Habiganj Agricultural University and made an outstanding contribution. Currently, he is a member of the Governing Board of the Central Laboratory of Khulna University. Besides, he is a life member of Krishibid Institution, Bangladesh and Zoological Society of Bangladesh. During his career, he traveled to China, Thailand and Malaysia and received short and long-term training from various reputed institutes in the country and abroad, including basic training. Dr. Md. Harun Or Rashid was born in a noble Muslim family in Melandah Upazila of Jamalpur District. His late father, the heroic freedom fighter Mr. Nashir Uddin Ahmed was a prominent social worker of West Jamalpur. His wife Janaba Shahnaz Parveen is a housewife and in personal life he is father of 3 (three) sons.
